Haiti takes 1/3 of the Island on the western side and the Dominican Republic the other 2/3.

The population is about 9,600 000 in habitants and the superficies is 68730 km2.

Santo Domingo, its capital is situated in the south.

Since the free elections in 1990, its economy showed a high period of growth.

The political regime is a democratic one and the presidential elections take place every 4 years. Now, Leonel Fernandez is the president.

The economy

Its main source is tourism thanks to its exceptional climate; sand beach’s surrounded by coconut trees, agriculture is the second source.

We chose Cabrera to open our real estate agency, situated on the north coast of the island, between Rio San Juan and Nagua. We were and still are seduced by the authenticity of this fishermen village, where you can live in quietness. The most beautiful villas of the island are also built there. Among the foreigners living in Cabrera, you can mainly find Quebecers and Americans. The north coast is the wildest region thanks to its abundant vegetation, its water falls, its incomparable beaches of fine sand, and its coconut trees surrounding the beaches as well as the cliffs.

For people longing to settle in the Dominican Republic, the residence request can be done by a lawyer or the foreign office the website of “la maison du français l’étranger” will answer all your administrative questions.

Property titles

All the property titles are checked by a lawyer at the land court, before closing. The charges related to property’s owning include tax, fees (to the lawyer) and are 5% of the sale price. There are no local residence taxes in Dominican Republic.
